A new batch of visas is being issued for Canadians who want to visit Ireland for work and family purposes.
A total of 5,542 applications for work-related visas have been received for this month, and the latest batch is due to be issued in the next few weeks.
The number of applicants for work visas will be limited to 5,500, which is down from the previous round of 5.7 million, as it will be necessary to apply for additional work permits from the European Union.
Applicants will have to demonstrate that they are qualified to work in Ireland.
They will have an employer and must have been living in Ireland for at least two years, be able to work from home and be working in the country for at the time of the application.
There are no restrictions on the types of work the applicants can undertake.
Applicants must also have a valid residence permit.
The first batch of work visas is expected to be distributed by the end of the month, with the next batch due to come out in February 2019.
The Irish Government has been working with Canada to ensure that Canadians working in Ireland can get work visas and can also apply for citizenship in Ireland, following the passage of the Irish Consular and Immigration Bill in June 2019.
